Ethel Roosevelt Derby was the youngest daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt. She served as a nurse in World War I and was president of the Red Cross in World War II. After her mother's death, she dedicated her life to preserving her father's memory and her home, Sagamore Hill. Ethel carried on her family's legacy and was a true hearted person. Locals affectionately called her the "Queen of Oyster Bay." She showed that service, simplicity and legacy, more than fame, can be the hallmarks of a First Daughter.
