President Andrew Johnson and First Lady Eliza McCardle had a daughter named Martha Johnson Patterson. Her mother's health prevented her from attending social gatherings and she was only able to attend two events. Martha played the role of host so well that the White House became an informal meeting place. She was the only child of her parents who did very well in her career and made them proud.
