Lynda Bird Johnson, the daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson and "Lady Bird" Johnson, was born in 1944. She holds an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. She was a magazine editor and the First Lady of the state of Virginia. Linda promoted literacy and public health and supported her father's Great Society programs. She also served as chair of the President's Women's Advisory Committee. She was also president of the "Reading is Fundamental" organization, which works for children's literacy.
