The "Day of the Dead" is a very emotional festival in Mexico. This festival is celebrated in memory of our loved ones who are no longer in this world, so it is an emotional and traditional festival. People decorate beautiful altars (ofrendas) in their homes and on graves. Flowers, candles, sweets, photos of the deceased, and their favorite things are placed on these altars. The most special flower is the marigold, which is considered a guide for souls. It is believed that souls come to visit their relatives on these special days.
So people dance, sing, cook food, and sit together to refresh their memories. There is no mourning in this festival, but rather a celebration of our memories.
