Harrison McKee was Mary "Mamie" Harrison, the only daughter of President Benjamin Harrison. She worked in the White House with her mother, Caroline Harrison. After her mother died, Mary assumed the responsibilities of First Lady for a time. She was intelligent and affable. She worked for women's education and social service. But when her father married her mother's niece, Mary Dimmick, in 1896, Mary was deeply hurt and became distant from her father.
