Frances "Fannie" Hayes was the sixth child and only daughter of U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes and Lucy Webb Hayes. She was a quiet nurse in the President's House from 1877 to 1881. She supported her mother, who was an active First Lady, immensely. After her mother's death (1889), Fannie became closest to her father. They participated in social and charitable work—especially on issues such as education and prison reform. Fannie served her father and carried on his dreams until his death in 1950 at the age of 82.
